From Calling to Creation
Since 2010, Markus Kendall Allen, also known as Kendarkus (a fusion of his first and middle name), has been on a personal journey exploring music and visual art.
Markus began playing piano at the age of eight and was raised in a Christian household. He attended Argonne Hills Chapel Center and is now a member of Agape Deliverance Ministries, his home church since 2015, where his father, Pastor Jeffery L. Gray, serves as pastor.
After graduating from Mississippi State University with a B.A. in Broadcast Communications, Markus gained experience in the music industry working with WPGC 95.5 in Washington, D.C. He then spent over ten years as a videographer and virtual event producer across various corporate environments. Today, he is fully pursuing his passion for music through Gospel House, with a mission to bring the next generation forward using future vibes and future beats.
Markus’ style is distinctive and still emerging within the Gospel House space. He is driven by experimentation and consistently seeks to push creative boundaries. His love for music spans multiple genres, and he values what each contributes to the culture. Through the use of technology and sampling, he reimagines gospel classics with modern energy, helping move Gospel House into new territory.
“I was raised in a Christian household, but I always loved 90s and 2000s hip-hop and R&B growing up. That era really shaped me sonically. As I got older, I fell in love with future beats and the Soulection and Kaytranada era, which leaned heavily on millennial samples and eventually introduced me to house music. In my late twenties, house became my favorite genre, especially South African House. I love taking gospel classics and giving them a modern twist.
I do this because God told me to. A persistent, small voice in my spirit kept telling me to make music that glorifies God’s name, and I finally stopped running from that calling. I truly get joy from creating. Even in this social media era, I am not focused on likes or numbers. I am going to keep doing this. My goal is to push Gospel House into the future, create music people can vibe to, and ultimately glorify Jesus Christ, our Father.”
